Gundog Foundation Course 6 Weekly Sessions | 10:00 am – 12:00 pm Location: The Old House Farm, Oddley Lane, Saunderton, Bucks HP27 9NQ Cost: £240 per handler Course Overview: Join us for a 6-week group training course at The Old House Farm in a secure 3-acre paddock. This course is designed for puppies and dogs of all gundog breeds (including pet gundogs) aged 6 months or older, and provides an ideal opportunity to enhance your bond with your dog while refining essential gundog skills. Whether you're preparing for fieldwork, working tests, or simply looking to improve everyday walks, we’ll cover key skills to help you succeed. Course Dates: Wednesdays, 10:00 am – 12:00 pm February: 5, 12, 19, 26 March: 12, 19 (No session on 5 March due to my absence) What We’ll Cover: In each 2-hour session, we’ll focus on the following core gundog skills: Focus & Attention: Strengthening your dog’s engagement with you. Heel Work: Encouraging controlled walking at your side. Reliable Recall: Ensuring a quick and dependable return using a whistle, then with a retrieve. Steadiness & Handling: Teaching calmness and self-control to a thrown dummy or another dog running past Stop Whistle: Introduction and building it into retrieving and handling Hunting & Delivery: Developing hunting instincts and a controlled tidy delivery. Obstacles & Retrieves: Building confidence with small obstacles and working on retrieves. Who Can Attend? This course is suitable for gundog breeds (including pet gundogs) aged 6 months or older, with a reliable recall and an interest in retrieving and hunting. Dogs should be comfortable training in a group environment and not display excessive barking. Additional Information: Equipment: Bring a dummy and whistle if you have them; these can also be borrowed or purchased on-site. Refund Policy: No refunds or exchanges for missed sessions unless a vet’s letter is provided. Health & Attendance: Dogs showing signs of kennel cough or bitches in season cannot attend. Meeting Point: Please arrive 10 minutes before class at the gravel drive at the front of the house. I will greet you there. Class Suitability: Not suitable for reactive dogs or those that bark continuously. Dogs should have attended a puppy or upper puppy group for basic training foundations, or my heel, recall and focus workshop. More gundog foundation groups will be released in due course.
